Five men represented Bulgaria in the first modern oltmpics in Athens in 1896 - Todor Yonchev, Panayot Belev, Ilia Penchev, Dimitar Iliev and Charl Champo, who is a swiss teacher, working in Bulgaria. He won the first ever points for the country finishing fifth in vault.
