The Bulgarian Olympic committee was established on 30th march 1923. Colonel Eftim Kitanchev was chosen as the first chairman but he died two years later. The committee was destructed and closed in 1944 when the comunists regime began. All the property of the committee was nationalized. In 1951 BOC was reestablished and started functioning again. Between than and 1982 Vladimir Stoychev was the chairman. After him Ivan Slavkov took over and ruled until 2005.
