The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina prepared very well for the first Olympic Winter Games in the Balkans (February 8-19). 1,274 athletes (274 women) from 49 nations. Bulgaria sent a large delegation and took part in a wide range of sports - biathlon, figure skating, Nordic and Alpine skiing, luge, and bobsled. Still we got no one within the first six. The USSR team was again at the top. History will remember the names of German skater Katarina Witt and Finnish skier Marja-Liisa Haemaelaeinen.
